A 23-year-old young man from Tripura died in a Malaysian hospital after he was reportedly infected with the virus in the first confirmed death due to Northeast coronavirus infection.
The victim, identified as Manir Hossain, worked in a Malaysian restaurant and died Tuesday night.
Hossain's grandfather has told the media that Malaysian authorities have informed them of his death on Wednesday morning.
Hossain, who married in 2016, moved to Malaysia in 2018 and has worked in a restaurant there since.
Hossain is the first person from the north-east who died from infection with coronavirus.
