Meghalaya Governor, Tathagata Roy said that he may seek the opinion from legal experts on the ordinance of the Meghalaya Residents Safety and Security Act (MRSSA), 2016.
“Yes I am currently examining the ordinance. I may seek the opinion of the legal experts on the ordinance,” Roy said while speaking to reporters here today.
When asked how much time he will take, the Governor said, “How long I don’t know as it is not a simple matter. It has several ramifications and I will have to examine them very carefully before I finally arrive at a conclusion”.
Once asked if he would request the Ministry of Home Affairs ' advice on the ordinance, he said he wouldn't want to say anything because he's still looking at the matter.
Chief Minister Conrad Sangma had previously argued that the procedural aspect is still going on and that they are hoping it will be approved at all times. The Meghalaya Social Organization Confederation (CoMSO) also appealed to the state governor to give his assent to the MRSSA order.
