Sikkim: SKM to produce white paper on liabilities and loans taken by SDF govt

Jacob Khaling, Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) spokesperson stated on Tuesday that the State Government would submit a white paper on liabilities on the State Government and loans taken by the earlier government in the upcoming Budget Session of the State Assembly.

He cleared that this white paper would be proof that the State has the debt of more than Rs 8000 crores.

According to the claims of Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF), Sikkim only has a debt of Rs 6000 crores, lowest in the entire north-eastern region.

Further, in the press conference, Khaling stated that 95 percent of works for the white paper has been completed and would be placed in the upcoming Budget session to be started from July 29 next.

He mentioned that the white paper will cover the entire account of works of the SDF government in its 25 years rule. He stated that this white paper was of liabilities on the State and loans taken by the earlier government from different institutions.

On the same, Khaling urged the former chief minister to attend and participate in this Assembly session during the presentation and discussion on the white paper as it was on liabilities and loans taken by the SDF government. He informed that the government would also take out second white paper.

Khaling disproved the claims of SDF spokespersons that Sikkim has the debt of Rs 6000 crores and it was the lowest in the north-eastern region. On the contrary, he stated that each person of Sikkim will be indebted with around Rs 1 lac if the whole debt was to be divided with the people of Sikkim as the census of 2011 and this was the highest in the country.

He mentioned that if the debt of other states divided into by its population then it was very low in comparison to the debt on each person of Sikkim.

Likewise, SKM spokesperson Sonam Venchungpa alleged that such huge money has gone to only one percent section of the people of Sikkim in the SDF government.

He stated that the endeavor of the SKM government was to find out where such a huge amount of money has gone and who was responsible for the misutilization of this huge amount of money. He added that the State Government would take account of the people’s money and will give it to the people of Sikkim.

Venchungpa stated that this Budget session would be shocking for the people to know the misdeeds and misutilization by the SDF government.
