Senior MLA of the United Democratic Party (UDP), H Brolding Nongsiej was sworn-in as the Minister of the National People’s Party (NPP) led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) Government in Meghalaya today.
Governor, Tathagata Roy administered the oath of office and secrecy to Nongsiej at the swearing-in-ceremony which was held at Raj Bhavan.
Among those who were present on the occasion includes Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma, Assembly Speaker, Metbah Lyngdoh, Cabinet Ministers, and senior government officials. The senior UDP legislator will be filing the gap left by former Tourism Minister and UDP president, Metbah Lyngdoh who was elected to the post of Speaker on September 13.
While talking to media after being sworn-in as the Minister, Nongsiej said that he is happy of getting an opportunity to serve the people of the State in the capacity of the Minister.
He also said that the Chief Ministers will decide on the portfolios he will give charge. Meanwhile, Chief Minister is also expected to affect portfolios reshuffle of the Ministers in his Cabinet.
However, Nongsiej is expected to get Water Resources, Civil Defence & Home Guards and Printing & Stationery while the other two portfolios which were held by Metbah will go to Lahkmen Rymbui and Kyrmen Shylla. Shylla will get Tourism while Rymbui will get Excise.
