Manipur's Zomi Students ' Federation is organizing a peaceful public demonstration in New Delhi on Monday from 2 pm to 5 pm at Jantar Mantar.
The demonstration is to ask the people of the Zo for the Zoland Territorial Council (ZTC) in Manipur.
This is in support of the political dialog for an honorable political settlement for the Zo people in Manipur between the Government of India, the Government of Manipur, the United People's Front (UPF) and the Kuki National Organization (KNO).
The Zo people's struggle is to reclaim the political status that the British colonial government took away and continued by the colonizers ' legatee in post-colonial India, a press release said.
The Manipuri kings never ruled the Zo people, mostly recognized and documented under various imposed titles, including Kuki and other local tribal identities, before the British colonizers arrived, the release said.
“Our political struggle is for the restoration of our dignity, our identity, our land and its resources to its rightful place under the Constitution of India,” it added.
“It is to fulfill our rightful claim for political autonomy. In fact, the Zo people in Manipur, together with the Nagas in Manipur, remain the only hill tribes in the entire north-eastern part of India without the provisions of neither Sixth Schedule nor a state of their own,” it reiterated.
