On Thursday, West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee asked about the number of people who died in Assam after the National Register of Citizens (NRC) was created.
While talking to the media in the Nabanna of West Bengal on Thursday, Banerjee said that the success of the Trinamool Congress in the by-polls of the State Assembly is a solid indication of the fact that the state's people are against NRC.
The Trinamool Congress won all three seats in the by-polls of the Assembly–Kaliaganj, Kharagpur-Sadar and Karimpur, the outcome of which was declared on Thursday.
He also said the Center could not override an elected government of the state to enforce NRC.
She also claimed to have committed suicide by 20 people in West Bengal due to fear of NRC.
Banerjee also questioned about the fate of people living in Assam after the NRC had been implemented in the State.
The chief minister also claimed that the actions of the BJP had led them to suffer defeat in the financial capital of the country, Maharashtra, as well as in West Bengal, the country's cultural capital.
She also claimed that the BJP might also be defeated in Jharkhand.
