Latiplang Kharkongor, Nongthymmai's autonomous MDC, was elected as the new Chief Executive of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC).
The Kharkongor's election came after former CEM nominee Teinwell Dkhar, a UDA candidate, withdrawn his CEM candidacy.
Dkhar was forced to withdraw when the election of the new CEM took place after the 14 MDCs supporting the UDA were not present.
KHADC President Pynshngain N Syiem formally announced Kharkongor's election as the Council's new CEM.
Syiem also told the House that he decided to go ahead with the CEM election as Dkhar only informed about his decision to withdraw from the contest after the session began.
He said that, according to law, before the House sitting, he (Dkhar) should have told about his decision.
The UDA has 14 MDCs help while there are 15 MDCs in the newly formed United People's Forum (UPF).
It can be said that now the UDA has a special conference. The UDA disbanded, knowing they're going to be defeated.
