Union home minister and BJP leader Amit Shah said Monday that before the next Lok Sabha elections, "each and every" infiltrator will be found and expelled, claiming NRC will be completed by 2024.
“Today let me assure that before the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, the National Register of Citizens (NRC) will be conducted across the country and every infiltrator will be identified and expelled,” Shah said.
He was addressing election rallies at Chakradharpur and Baharagora in Jharkhand.
“The pan-India NRC will be carried out, no matter what,” Shah said, despite a few West Bengal BJP leaders saying the nationwide NRC issue cost them dearly in the recently held state by-polls.
Shah informed the Rajya Sabha on November 20 that there will be a nationwide NRC in the country, and Assam will also be a part of it.
The final NRC released this year in Assam on August 31 saw the exclusion in the state of more than 1.9 million applicants.
