Today, the Congress Party led by former Chief Minister, Dr. Mukul Sangma, protested against the planned introduction of the Citizenship Amendment Bill in the city. The rally took place in the South West Garo Hills village of Garobadha.
Today's rally saw a host of Congress leaders in Garo Hills including Zenith Sangma, Lazarus Sangma, and former state AT Mondal spokesperson. The rally was organized by the Meghalaya Pradesh Youth Congress and the WGH DCC, which saw a large crowd of over 3000 people.
The rally started from the Garobadha Cattle Market at 11 a.m. this morning and proceeded to the playground at the Amguri HS School where Dr. Sangma joined the protestors for the following meeting. As part of the protest against the controversial Bill, the rallyers traveled a distance of nearly 3.5 km and began at 11 a.m. this morning.
In the meantime, yesterday in Resubelpara, North Garo Hills, a similar protest led by the CAB congress was also held.
The protest rally that took place yesterday, Nov 14, was led by Mendipathar Congress MLA, Marthon Sangma and Kharkutta's former MLA and DCC leader, Cherak Momin with leaders of the District Congress Committee (DCC), DYC and Mahila Congress, all part of the protest.
The demonstrators demanded the notorious Bill's unconditional removal.
The NGH protest comes after a similar protest held last Saturday, Nov. 10 at Williamnagar in East Garo Hills.
