A high-level Indian Industry Confederation (CII) team led by Naresh Agarwal called Samman Bhawan's Chief Minister P S Tamang today to discuss how CII would collaborate with Sikkim's government in promoting state-owned growth sectors.
During the meeting, Chief Minister P S Tamang hoped and wished that CII could assist the state government in processing and packaging Sikkim's organic products to help Sikkim carve its domestic niche.
The Chief Minister also emphasized during the meeting that they can also concentrate on taping the Eastern Asian market and produce goods which are in demand in the countries.
Another focus area where CII could assist the government was to encourage home stay by working in tandem with the Department of State Tourism.
The CII delegation also discussed in detail their role in developing Sikkimese youth's skills while at the same time making them more qualified and ready for job opportunities outside the government.
They also offered to assist in capacity-building Sikkim farmers and growers by developing common centers for processing their organic products and also helping them to market their products.
To promote Sikkim in international tourism market CII suggested that they should have international tour operator in Sikkim for an exposure trip, which can boost international tourists visiting Sikkim.
The chief minister asked the delegation of the CII to come forward with a concrete proposal to set up food processing units in Sikkim, to promote Sikkim in the international tourism market, and to develop skills, while ensuring that the government of the state will extend all possible assistance and cooperation to the CII.
