The Dibrugarh University Postgraduate Students ' Union (DBPGSU) banned Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal and other BJP leaders from entering the campus in protest against the CAB.
Union members and supporters also organized a bike rally against the controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Bill (CAB) in Dibrugarh.
DBPGSU General Secretary Rahul Chetri said that CM Sarbananda Sonowal and other BJP leaders had been banned from entering the premises of Dibrugarh University (DU).
“We have banned the entry of CM Sonowal, Jorhat MP Tapan Gogoi, Rajya Sabha MP Kamakhya Prasad Tasa, Himanta Biswa Sarma, Atul Bora, and other BJP MLAs into the university campus,” he said.
“They have betrayed the people of Assam,” Chetri added.
“CAB is against the people of Assam but the BJP government is supporting the bill, which is against the interests of people,” Chetri added.
AASU leaders will meet the union home minister Amit Shah in New Delhi on Tuesday to discuss the bill and convey their “strong” opposition.
“We appeal to the student community of Assam to unitedly raise their voice against CAB,” Chetri further said.
“If this Bill is passed then it will prove a death knell for the people of Assam,” he added.
The BJP-led government in the state has been facing a huge backlash for it’s stand in support of CAB.
