On Sunday, former Assam chief minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta denied the ULFA-I chief Paresh Baruah's allegation that Mahanta came to power with ULFA assistance in 1996.
The ULFA-I supremo recently commented on Mahanta's second coming into power in 1996 with the help of ULFA in a television channel over the phone.
While attending a public meeting of the North East Minority Students Union (NWMSU) in Napam near Tezpur on Sunday, Mahanta said that AGP did not form government to take assistance from the insurgency group.
"But at that time the ULFA killed many innocent people along with the leaders of the AGP," Mahanta continued.
He also refuted the allegations made at a public meeting by the Minister of State Finance, Himanta Biswa Sarma, as baseless.
