In condemnation of the arrest of peasant leader Akhil Gogoi, Krishak Sangram Samiti (KMSS) members protested in Guwahati on Monday demanding his unconditional release.
Also demanding release of other arrested KMSS leaders-Dharjya Konwar, Bitu Sonowal, Manash Konwar in addition to pro-talk ULFA chief Jiten Dutta, were the protesters who gathered in the Chachal area of city.
A National Investigation Agency (NIA) special court sent Akhil to 10-day NIA custody on Tuesday. The new Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act arrested Akhil.
He was first detained on December 12 by Assam police and then handed over to the NIA where he was slapped with the UAPA charges.
According to sections 120(B), 124(A), 153(A), 153(B) of the IPC and 18, 39 of the Act, Akhil was arrested.
