Sunday's Congress Party hit out at the argument of Prime Minister Narendra Modi that there are no detention centers in India.
Modi during a BJP election rally on Sunday at Ramlila Maidan in New Delhi said, “There is no detention centre in India.”
“I request the youth of the country to read the Act in detail and not to fall prey to the rumors of detention-centers being spread by Urban Naxals and Congress. It’s a lie and is dividing the nation,” Modi added.
The Congress party, in response to Modi's address, asked the prime minister if he believed that Indians could not simply search Google to test his lies for fact.
In a tweet, Congress stated, ‘Does PM Modi believe Indians can’t do a simple google search to fact check his lies?”
“Detention Centres are extremely real and will continue to grow as long as this govt is in power,” it added.
In addition, three screenshots of earlier news headlines were added in the Congress ' tweet to denounce Modi.
One screenshot showed home affairs minister Nityanand Rai saying 28 illegal immigrants were killed in detention centers across Assam.
The second news screenshot showed the headline that Maharastra will have the first detention center for illegal migrants in Navi Mumbai.
The last screenshot shows the headline that there are 7 football fields in India's first illegal migrant detention camp.
Modi also said on Sunday that the NRC had not been debated in Parliament or the Union Cabinet.
He also claimed that the Supreme Court ordered NRC to be implemented in Assam.
