The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) pipeline is carrying out as many as seven major projects and 17 more.
The purpose of the projects is to increase operational efficiency and thus improve services.
These would help improve the running of trains and increase capacity in the near future for more freight handling.
There is a cumulative outlay of more than Rs 645 crores in the seven ongoing projects.
It would cost about Rs 123 crores for the 17 proposed projects.
Silghat station in middle Assam would be developed under these seven ongoing projects into a full-fledged terminal station with provisions for Pit Line & Sick Lines (for train maintenance), watering equipment, etc.
At the same time, to make them fit for handling freight, Senchoa / Haiborgaon stations would be fitted with goods circulating area and approach lane.
N F Railway also plans to upgrade Tipkai and Basbari lower Assam stations from D-Class to B-Class at an approximate cost of Rs 37 crore in the near future.
