Ramakrishna Sewa Ashram based in Nayapara on Sunday morning took out a colorful rally at Goalpara town due to Swami Vivekananda's 157th birthday.
The rally was kicked off by PB Chetry, the Commissioner for District Growth, who also cut a birthday cake prepared for the occasion. Hundreds of people from different walks of life including senior citizens, women and children took part in the rally waving national flags and displayed birthday posters.
After the rally a discussion was arranged on the Ashram campus about Swamiji's life and works. Many distinguished people, including Ashish Chakraborty, president, Ananda Kishore Bhowmik, secretary, academic Dr. Dhananjoy Medhi, and co-ordinator of Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan, Somnath Paul, spoke on the occasion. In addition, there were art and quiz competitions where more than 70 students took part.
“The Ramakrishna Sewa Ashram, Goalpara is providing service to the poor and needy every year like offering warm clothes during the winter season, free coaching to needy students and donating furniture to hospitals. We are running our Ashram with the ideology of Swamiji and providing whatever little service we can afford to the society,” said Ashish Chakraborty.
