Nagaland: 24-year-old drunk man arrested for shooting student in leg


In an unfortunate incident, one Mikato Yepthomi, a student of Eastern Christian College, Dimapur, was shot at point-blank range on August 4 at around 9 PM in Purana Bazaar, Dimapur.

According to the statement given by the main accused, Poluto Awomi, 24, said that he along with his friend Hekoto were in an inebriated state during the time of the incident, he had no intention to shoot nor the victim.

The accused said that while they were consuming liquor at Purana Bazaar, they saw the victim and his two friends approaching them and they happened to be complete strangers. The victim and his friends had walked away during their conversation which triggered Puloto Awomi to shoot with a country made Pistol .22.

The accused had shot a blank fire first and the second bullet hit the victim on his leg. After realizing what had happened, the accused rushed the victim to the hospital.

The victim is said to be out of danger.

A case has been registered against the duo at East Police Station, Dimapur. Police have arrested one of the accused of further investigation. The other accused is absconding.
