The Capital Complex district administration bagged the North East Technology Shabha Award in the “enterprise mobility category” for GPS based sanitation management at the Itanagar Municipal Council (IMC).
The award was received by Pinge Doji and Niraj Maheshwari on behalf of the district administration in a glittering event held in Guwahati on Saturday.
Giving an overview of the GPS based Sanitation Management, Deputy Commissioner Prince Dhawan informed that the solid waste is one of the major problems in Indian cities.
“It was a major problem for the Capital Complex too as it had been proved in the Swachch Survekshan of 2016 where the city was placed as the third dirtiest city. However, with efforts of district administration and IMC it soon improved its rankings by giant strides to reach the half way mark by ranking 216 out of 434 cities,” informed the DC.
The DC further informed that the GPS based system is helping the civic body to track the vehicle and detect irregularities in solid waste collection.
All the vehicles of IMC have been fitted with GPS devices enabling real time tracking, cost saving, efficient route management and bringing accountability in sanitation management. If the vehicle gives any residential colony or spot a miss, officers concerned at the administration and IMC will get to know about that without stepping out of their offices through system generated test message alerts, Dhawan said.
Furthermore, the IMC is employing machine learning technique on day to day data generated on waste collections from every ward in order to predict monthly or rather annual quantity of waste collection. This will help the council in resource planning and effective management on processing waste management plants, he added.
Dhawan has further sought the cooperation of every individual for the success of the system and has hoped that with untiring efforts of the district administration and the IMC, the Capital Complex will soon reach newer heights and become one of the cleanest city in the country.
This is the second award that the district administration and IMC has received for the GPS based sanitation management. Earlier, the project had received the Skoch Order of Merit Award at the 52nd Skoch Summit.
Besides bagging the award in the enterprise mobility category, the State’s police and Accounts and Treasuries department also won awards on the day.
The police department won the award for its Arunachal Suraksha (Mobile App) while the accounts and treasuries department was awarded for its Project eGPF (e-General Provident Fund application).
The eGPF system provides online all the GPF Account related information at any moment for employees of GoAP while the Arunachal Suraksha is a citizen centric service from Arunachal Pradesh Police where any citizen or tourist can get instant help from nearest police station on a single touch in situation of any distress.
