The crime branch of Arunachal Pradesh police has registered a case of sedition against Sharjeel Imam, the JNU student on Jan 13 for his alleged remarks regarding cutting off Northeastern states from the rest of India.
They had received information, according to a senior state police officer, that an objectionable video was being circulated on social media platforms, including WhatsApp, Facebook, Twitter, etc., prompting Assam and other NE states, including Arunachal from the rest of India, to secession.
The crime branch of Itanagar has registered a case against Imam under sections 124(A), 153(A) and 153(B) of Indian Penal Code for sedition, promoting enmity between groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence and language etc.
Another FIR has also been registered by Manipur Police against Imam under sections 121/121-A/124-A/ 120-B /153 IPC.
Meanwhile, in a raid carried out by Police after multiple FIRs were filed against Shaheen Bagh mastermind Sharjeel Imam, two of his relatives were reportedly detained.
