The associations of Mid-Day Meal (MDM) scheme members held a meeting demanding a raise in the remuneration of the Mid-Day Meal cooks and helpers at school on Thursday.

The MDM cooks and helpers are allegedly only paid Rs 1000 as an honorarium.

The EGH section of the association recently held a meeting at the Willianagar on August 24 to highlight their grievances on the miserly ‘salary’.

The meeting was attended by representatives of the blocks of Rongjeng, Resubelpara, Bajengdoba, and Songsak with it being presided over the president of the association, Mothila Sangma.

The members of the association members decided to demand a hike of their allowance to something reasonable and to continue the pursuit of the same with the state government.

The Association had previously raised the issue in a meeting with the Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma, at Nongalbibra on July 13, 2019, and again with the Tura MP, Agatha Sangma, in Williamnagar on Aug 23 and appealed to her to help them in this matter.

The association has stated that it would hold a general meeting in Williamnagar on Nov 16 to continue fighting for a reasonable raise and also sought the enrollment of all cooks and helpers who are yet to enroll.

“We have to make our association stronger,” appealed general secretary, Armonica Momin.
