Nagaland Governor Padmanabha Balakrishna Acharya on Thursday took the additional charge of Manipur Governor.
He was sworn in as the Governor of Manipur at Darbar Hall of Raj Bhavan, Imphal on Thursday.
Justice Lanusungkum Jamir of High Court of Manipur administered the oath of office to the Governor.
Governor PB Acharya will discharge the functions of the Governor of Manipur, in addition to his own duties, during the absence (on leave) of state Governor Dr Najma Heptulla.
Talking to media after the swearing in ceremony, Acharya said that Governor is the constitutional head of the state and that he will discharge his constitutional duties.
Stating that a lot of things can be done to strengthen India, he opined all the states should be equally developed and those who have been denied the benefits of central projects can be involved in a systematic manner to avail them the benefits.
He also extended his good wishes and greetings to the people of Manipur.
State chief minister N Biren Singh, some ministers, MLAs, top civil and police officials attended the swearing-in ceremony.
Acharya took the additional charge of Manipur Governor in the absence of state Governor Dr Najma Heptulla who will be on leave for a month. She is on leave to visit USA where her family stays.
