Assam's Kaliabor Lok Sabha MP Gaurav Gogoi protested against rising air pollution levels in New Delhi outside Parliament on Monday.
Gogoi wore a pollution-free mask and staged a demonstration outside Parliament in front of Mahatma's Gandhi statue.
He said he wanted Prime Minister Narendra Modi to come up with a new law to control air pollution as the old law dates back to 1981 and is obsolete.
During the Parliament's winter session, Gogoi would bring a private member bill seeking changes to the Air (Pollution Prevention and Control) Act, 1981.
On November 18, the winter session will begin and run until December 13.
He had said earlier that his first goal is to find out that air pollution is a health problem.
“Nowhere in the Act is it mentioned that it is a health issue. So we will put it right there. A main component of the bill will be to give more control to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB),” Gogoi had said.
