Researchers from the Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati (IIT-G) have devised a way to produce tissue-engineered meat which is a great boon to save animals that are mostly killed for meat production.
The development has been made by researchers of the biomaterial and tissue engineering laboratory who have taken different kinds of cells from animals through biopsies. Following this, certain cells such as muscle progenitor cells, fat cells, cartilage cells or bone cells were then grown in separate layers that had been developed and patented in the laboratory.
A researcher part of this production said that the engineered meat can be altered and the nutrient content of the meat can also be manipulated to meet the demands of the customer.
The researchers have also claimed that they can yield approximately 100 chickens from one chicken.
